Man's Land
Directed by Danis Tanovic (debut), This
film is set during the 1993 Bosnian Conflict. and is the story
of two soliders, a Bosnian, Ciki (Djuric), and a Serb, Nino (Bitorajac),
who find themselves trapped in "No Man's Land", a trench between
both sides, next to an injured Bosnian lying on a mine that could
kill them all. Soon, an U.N. sergeant (Siatidis), trying to help,
attracts the attention of the international press.
This film one a Best Foreign Picture Golden Globe and is nominated
for an Oscar in the same category.
Black
Kites (by Jo Andres) Based on 1992 journals
of Bosnian visual artist Alma Hajric who was forced into a basement
shelter to survive the siege of Sarajevo, Black Kites is the outcome
of a chance encounter between Hajric and filmmaker-choreographer
Andres. Features performances by
Steve Buscemi, Mimi Goese and Mira Furlan, a prominent actress
from the former Yugoslavia, as the narrator.
