On
April 5 & 6, 1992, during peaceful demonstrations, the citizens
of Sarajevo and neighboring towns held peaceful demonstrations outside
of this, the parliament building for Bosnia & Hercegovina. It
was during these demonstrations that snipers opened fire on the
crowd from a hospital and a Holiday Inn across the street. It was
during this time that the first victim in Sarajevo, The first victim
of the war in Bosnia was Suada Dilberovic, a 24-year old medical
student, killed by small arms fire in Sarajevo on April 5, 1992
on a nearby bridge. The bridge has been named in her honor. The
building was first bombed in May of 1992 and on many subsequent
occassions. This site is very important to the residents of Sarajevo
because they see it as the starting place of the war in Sarajevo.
