On April 5 & 6, 1992, during peaceful demonstrations, the citizens of Sarajevo and neighboring towns held peaceful demonstrations outside of this, the parliament building for Bosnia & Hercegovina. It was during these demonstrations that snipers opened fire on the crowd from a hospital and a Holiday Inn across the street. It was during this time that the first victim in Sarajevo, The first victim of the war in Bosnia was Suada Dilberovic, a 24-year old medical student, killed by small arms fire in Sarajevo on April 5, 1992 on a nearby bridge. The bridge has been named in her honor. The building was first bombed in May of 1992 and on many subsequent occassions. This site is very important to the residents of Sarajevo because they see it as the starting place of the war in Sarajevo.
